The Rottweiler is strong and true with a loving heart. Affectionately called Rotties or Rotts, the breed originated in Germany, where it was used to drive cattle and pull carts for farmers and butchers. That heritage is reflected in the Rottie's broad chest and heavily muscled body. The Rottweiler is a working dog often used as a guard, service or military dog. The dog breed is by nature very kind and good-natured, which makes them ideal for a loving family pet as well. When properly raised Rottweilers should be obedient and child-friendly. The Rottweiler is self-confident, attentive and has quite a strong guarding instinct. They are great with children and other pets and will protect their family. Rotties have a wait and see approach when confronted with new situations (people, places, actions). They assess the situation and then they react. This is due to a large part of the dog’s intelligence. Rotties need their daily exercise and mental stimulation every day, which requires an active and committed owner. This will keep them out of mischievous behavior. Getting bored and (chewing, jumping, running indoors etc..) Rotties need at least two 30 min exercise sessions a day at minimum . We recommend more however but that is a minimum. Keeping your dog exercised and engaged will make the Rottie and Owner a very healthy and happy relationship.
